After having cut full-length albums with heavy-hitters like David Barbe of Sugar and The Skydiggers’ Josh Finlayson, Dennis Ellsworth kept the making of Things Change, his fifth and newest solo release, a little closer to home. With Joel Plaskett in the producer’s chair, Ellsworth decamped to his producer’s studio in Nova Scotia to bring his latest record to life. While not completely eschewing his Americana roots, Ellsworth leans a little more heavily on guitar-driven melodies this time around, lending a bit of a sunnier disposition to the record as a whole. Notably, the release is Ellsworth’s second effort in the last 14 months, the first having been Everyone Needs to Chill Out, a collaborative effort with fellow Island songwriter and former Hey Rosetta! violinist Kinley.
